The products you put on your body are just as important as what you eat. This is something that I didn’t realize for too long. When I finally found the truth about the products I was using I went on a through overhaul. I literally tossed everything I had been using because it wasn’t supporting my goals to live a Better Life. What’s in your products? Let’s explore.
I didn’t spend a ton of time caring about products when I was in High School and College. But during law school I wanted to present myself as more put together (probably because I felt like an imposter begin in law school in the first place but that is an entirely different subject). I quickly went from product noob to avid product junkie. I loved skin care, makeup, hair products.
When I started working as a trial lawyer I was in front of strangers arguing cases asking for convictions. I really stepped up my makeup and skin care game, because once you have people staring at you all day you realize how much they notice. I had a juror early in my career ask me after trial what shoes I had worn on day 3 of a 10 day trial. At the time I used mostly Chanel, Laura Mercier and Murad. I’m embarrassed to say that at 27 years old the eye cream I was using cost upwards of $100. The eye cream I use now at 37 is $42, more effective and isn’t filled with ingredients that impact my health. Which is the point of this post.
I was clueless about the skin care, body, hair care and cosmetic products I was using. I was totally unaware that what goes onto your skin goes into your blood in 28 seconds, which is concerning because the United States doesn’t regulate these types of products for known carcinogens. In Europe over 1,300 chemicals are specifically banned from use in cosmetics, in the US the FDA has specifically banned 9 ingredients. To be fair, the European Standard does include ingredients that have never been used in cosmetics but you have to say something for completeness.
I didn’t begin paying attention to this information until I was having heath issues including hormone disregulation and adrenal fatigue. After researching I found that the products I was using could be playing a part in the difficulty my body was having. I also knew that I didn’t want my kids bathing in products that contained petroleum (yes like gasoline), mineral oil and formaldehyde. Once I started looking into it I just got pissed. Companies like Johnson & Johnson make a set of products to sell in Europe and a cheaper, chemical filled counter part to sell here. Doesn’t that make you mad….they already are making cleaner products!! Speaking of Johnson & Johnson they just lost a lawsuit in where the plaintiff’s were awarded $72 million after getting ovarian cancer. It was found that Johnson and Johnson failed to warn consumers that their talc products ( including that white powder that we are encouraged to use on babies) have cancer causing ingredients.
It is up to us as consumers to be informed, but the information isn’t always easy to find. It is just starting to get out there. A recent study found that when Teenage girls switched their products that they had a ‘significant reduction in endocrine-disrupting chemicals’ in just three days. The study continues to say that “Techniques available to consumers, such as choosing personal care products that are labeled to be free of phthalates, parabens, triclosan, and oxybenzone, can significantly reduce personal exposure to these potentially endocrine-disrupting chemicals. Our study did not test [products] for the presence of these chemicals, but simply used techniques available to the average consumer: reading labels and investigating product safety through web-based databases.”
But it feels totally overwhelming to research everything from your facial cleaner to your shampoo to every lipgloss you use. I was in the same boat and then I found Arbonne. Yes there are other companies that have products that have some of the qualities that Arbonne has, but there is no other company that has as complete of a product suite with as long of a history of creating pure, safe and beneficial products. Arbonne products are Swiss formulated from naturally sourced ingredients that are free from all the fillers, and chemicals all to present in products sold in the United States, even the high end ones. The reason I became an Arbonne consultant is because I love and trust the company and the products. I have meet amazing people who are dedicated to helping others change their products and their lives. I also had so many compliments on my skin, and people asking where they could get the products that I knew I had to be able to share with others. It’s part of being Bulletproof, taking care of your body, your hormones, inside and out. If you are interested in Arbonne products I am happy to help. No matter what you choose I encourage you to look into the products you are using and ask if they are helping you live your Better Life.
